In an article today about how the MoH has shelved plans for a Nationwide Covid Infection Survey, the reason provided by a spokesperson was as follows.
“Aotearoa New Zealand has passed the emergency stage of its Covid-19 response, with the virus endemic in our communities. The results of any Covid-19-focused prevalence survey would be unlikely to meaningfully alter any current public health response as there are only two pandemic-related mandates still in place.”

As far as mandates go, only the Healthcare Mask Requirement, and the 7-Day Isolation Period remain.

So, the Government retains all those powers until 2 years after Royal assent of the COVID-19 Public Health Response (Extension of Act and Reduction of Powers) Amendment Act 2022. When was that granted?
So, they can use the Emergency Powers until 25 November 2024.
