NZ Covid Stats by Vaccination Status – From first reported Boosted death to August 2023

The first time the MoH reported an under 60 Boosted death was May 18, 2022

At the time this was the distribution of Vaccination Cohorts:

Cases as at 18 May 2022

At this stage, the Boosted were in the lead for raw number of cases, but were still faring better per-capita than the 2- and 1-dose cohorts at 16,834.94 cases per 100,000 people. Unvaccinated fared best with 3,936.5 cases per 100,000 people.

Cases SINCE 18 May 2022 – August 2023

In the 15 months since May 2022, the Boosted have gone from 16.8k per 100,000 to 52k per 100,000.

The unvaccinated have gone from 3,936 to 4,973.

Hospitalisations as at 18 May 2022

At this point, the Fully Vaccinated were still the top occupier of hospital beds, and this was when they defined it as “in hospital, happens to have Covid”. It was later that the definition changed to “hospitalised FOR Covid” but they didn’t remove the existing “happens to have it” ones.

Boosted actually fared best per-100k, just. 132.67 people hospitalised with/for Covid per 100,000 people. Unvaccinated were hospitalised at 135.00 per 100,000 people.

Hospitalisations SINCE 18 May 2022 – August 2023

Since May 2023, the Boosted group has had almost 10x the number of hospital beds taken up than the unvaccinated group, and went from 132 hospitalisations per 100,000 people to 795 hospitalisations per 100,000 people, That’s a LOT of our health system tied up by Boosted people.

The unvaccinated went from 135 to 190.

Deaths With Covid within 28 Days of Death as at 18 May 2022

At this point, the Boosted Cohort was topping the raw deaths number, but was the lowest per-capita, at 18.62 deaths with Covid per 100,000 people. The Not Fully Vaccinated Cohort was second at 18.99, and Fully Vaccinated at 19.21 deaths with Covid per 100,000 people.

Deaths With Covid within 28 Days of Death SINCE 18 May 2022 – August 2023

The boosted cohort has had again, almost 10x the number of deaths of the Not Fully Vaccinated cohort since 18 May 2022.

They have gone from 18.62 deaths per 100,000 people in May 2022, to 106.72 for the period since then.

The Not Fully Vaccinated have gone from 18.99 to 32.82.
