If MoH/TWO’s Own Deaths With Covid Data from 2022 Shows This, Why Are We Still Boosting?

Share This:

The Case data for 2022 seems to show it’s not working at preventing spread, and the Boosted are worst off there.

Let’s look at Deaths With Covid within 28 days. It’s the weekly number that the media gives us. But by vaccination status, which they don’t mention any more. They used to, RNZ had a great vaccination status chart section. Then it got removed.

For the Deaths per-capita calculation, the under-12s are included in all cohorts and the 0-dose is calculated by Total Population – 1st Doses administered (paediatric + adult dose totals).

March: 5,114,900, June: 5,117,100, September: 5,131,200.

Spoiler, Boosted starts off best. That does not last long.

NZ Deaths with Covid within 28 days of death

1 April 2022 – Day 9 of Death Data Availability

Death data overall became available on 22 March 2022. For the sake of tidy charts, these start 9 days later. They show the total number of deaths within 28 days of a positive Covid test by vaccination status.

March 2020 to 1 April 2022:

At this point, we see the Not Fully Vaccinated dying with Covid at the highest per-capita rate of all cohorts. Then Fully Vaccinated, then Boosted. Looking like what I’d expect to see from an effective vaccine. Yay!

This feels awfully familiar.

In total since 2000: 102 Not Fully Vaccinated deaths / 109 Fully Vaccinated Deaths / 121 Boosted Deaths

Per-100.000 people since 2020: 9.67 Not Fully Vaccinated deaths / 7.40 Fully Vaccinated Deaths / 4.68 Boosted Deaths

July 1 – August 1 2022

March 2020 to 1 August 2022: August 1 is the peak of our Covid Deaths in NZ.

Overall death figures up to 30 June 2022 still show the Boosted dying the most, per-capita. Now almost 1,500 people have died with the very disease that they got Boosted (at this point either 3 or 4 doses!) For the month of July, the Boosted per-capita death total was again the highest.

This has been added to the per-capita charts. I just happened to notice that the reported Boosted figure was in excess of 3 million. That’s not even the case now in February 2024 as I write this. 2.75ishM. I’d have missed it if I didn’t know these numbers as well as I do. I went to the first day I could find that had the 4th dose split out, August 8.

^NOTE: As MoH had been artificially inflating the Booster (3rd dose) total by including Dose 4 numbers, it has been reset to the first available “true” 3rd Dose number of 2,710,803 on August 8

01 August Vaccine Data Page: I see no mention here about the Boosters figure containing Dose 4.

They were loading the Boosted figure. Why? Maybe to make more people think that more people were taking it. I don’t know why they do the things they do.

In total since 2000: 344 Not Fully Vaccinated deaths / 404 Fully Vaccinated Deaths / 1,498 Boosted Deaths

Per-100.000 people since 2020: 34.76 Not Fully Vaccinated deaths / 28.74 Fully Vaccinated Deaths / 55.05 Boosted Deaths

Month of July 1 – August 1 2022:

In total since 1 July: 68 Not Fully Vaccinated deaths / 71 Fully Vaccinated Deaths / 602 Boosted Deaths

Per-100.000 people since 1 July: 6.87 Not Fully Vaccinated deaths / 5.05 Fully Vaccinated Deaths / 22.12 Boosted Deaths

2 August – 1 September 2022

The period of July-August-September 2022 was NZ’s peak Covid death period. It’s now trending down.

In total since 2000: 379 Not Fully Vaccinated deaths / 451 Fully Vaccinated Deaths / 1,924 Boosted Deaths

Per-100.000 people since 2020: 40.47 Not Fully Vaccinated deaths / 34.73 Fully Vaccinated Deaths / 69.79 Boosted Deaths

2 September – 2 October 2022

At this stage, MoH moved from daily updates to weekly. Vaccine data for these charts is 3 October, Case Demographics 2 October.

In total since 2000: 379 Not Fully Vaccinated deaths / 451 Fully Vaccinated Deaths / 1,924 Boosted Deaths

Per-100.000 people since 2020: 40.47 Not Fully Vaccinated deaths / 34.73 Fully Vaccinated Deaths / 76.41 Boosted Deaths

Month of November 1 – December 4 2022:

In total since 30 October: 19 Not Fully Vaccinated deaths / 24 Fully Vaccinated Deaths / 191 Boosted Deaths

Per-100.000 people since 30 October: 1.911 Not Fully Vaccinated deaths / 1.76 Fully Vaccinated Deaths / 3.21 Boosted Deaths

tl;dr – The Trend from 1 April – 1 December 2022

It seems fairly clear to me, looking at only these datasets from 13 March 2022, to December 1 2022, the Boosted cohort is not one I want to be in.

The Boosted cohort death rate really seems to start taking off in August 2022, and accelerates from there.
